Twitter suspending more than 10 lakh fake accounts per day, famous celebrities lose followers

With the efforts to stop the issue of fake news and flow of misinformation, social media giant Twitter is suspending more than 10 lakh fake accounts per day and the crackdown results in the decline of the followers of famous celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Narendra Modi, Virat Kohli and Deepika Padukone.

The twitter’s move to curb the fake accounts made US President tweeted to ask few questions.

He said, “Twitter is getting rid of fake accounts at a record pace. Will that include the falling New York Times and propaganda machine for Amazon, the Washington Post, who constantly quote anonymous sources that, in my opinion, don’t exist- they will both out of business in 7 years”.

Twitter has doubled up its crackdown rate since last year as millions of Americans are the sufferer of fake news and automated accounts are being screened at the sign-up stage as 50,000 accounts are blocked per day as spam sign-ups.

The pressure to tackle the fake news on social media are handled with the help of automated accounts known as bots which are used to manipulate issues like 2016 US Presidential election as well as Brexit.

Twitter audit is working on the accounts of famous personality like Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, cricketer Virat Kohli and Deepika Padukone.

According to them, “the scoring method is not perfect but it is a good way to tell if someone with lots of followers is likely to have increased their follower count by fraudulent, inorganic and dishonest means”.

According to a new update a week ago, PM Narendra Modi has 23% fake followers as 33 million out of 43 million followers are fraudulent. US President has 86%-real followers with 51 million follower while the famous Indian Cricket team captain Virat Kohli has almost 50% fake followers as his real followers are 11,307,796 as compared to 14,217,706 fake followers. Deepika Padukone has 67% real followers and Amitabh Bachchan has 62%-real followers.
