‘Toilet: Ek Prem katha’ is giving a stiff competition in the China Box Office to the blockbusters like ‘Avenger: Infinity War’, local hit ‘How long Will I Love u’ and action thriller ‘Black Water’. The movie was released on June 8 in China and within three days, it collected $9.05 million (Rs 61 crore).
The Akshay Kumar’s comedy-drama surpassed the weekend collection of Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan ($8.75 million) and Bahubali 2: The Conclusion ($7.63 million) but fell short with the weekend performance of other three Indian movie like Dangal ($14.2 million), Hindi Medium ($21.2 million) and Secret Superstar ($27.72 miliion).
The film opens up with a slow start but witnessed about 53% growth from the day 2. Shibasish Sarkar, COO of the Reliance Entertainment said, “The film has definitely performed well in the first three days. It’s more than what we expected initially. But, the crucial time starts on June 11. It has lesser rating than Dangal and other films”.
he added further, “Although the ratings were out on 8 June (Friday), the film witnessed good growth on Saturday and Sunday with word-of-mouth picking up. Now, we have to see how it performs on the weekdays. And, Jurassic World is releasing next week in China, which will definitely take up substantial number of shows”.
After the release of Aamir Khan’s Dangal, the Chinese market has become more acceptable to the Indian movies especially those are content based and social-themed stories. Dangal has set an easy platform for the upcoming released movies in China as Hindi Medium gave a surprise release after that. The Chinese audience is looking forward to see more content-driven movies from India.
