Shammi aunty of the Bollywood passes away at 89

Popularly known as the Bollywood’s shammi aunty, veteran actress Shammi passes away yesterday at the age of 89. At the suburban residence, she took her last breath. All the rituals will be performed at the Oshiwara Crematorium at afternoon.

Making her early age entry in the Bollywood with the movie Ustad Pedro in 1951, she had worked in almost 400 movies. Her famous movies include Jab Jab Phool Khile in 1965, Upkar in 1967, Ittefaq in 1969 and half ticket in 1962. She had also worked in television shows like Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Who, Zabaan Sambhal ke, Dekh Bhai Dekh.

On the death of her best friend, Asha parekh said that she knows her very well even though they didn’t work together on any movie. She was an important part of the famous industry gang of friends included Waheeda Rehman,Nanda and sadhana. She was sad to see that everyone is passing day-by-day and would surely organise a screening of the new release while inviting yesteryear folk. The lady was full of life. She was already in a bad health and Asha’s family kept visiting her.

She was last seen in Begal Segal’s movie Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi featuring Farah Khan and Boman Irani.

Farah khan said, “On the set, she was always punctual and good humoured. Often, shooting would go on till late night, but she would always be in good spirits”.

The superstar Amitabh Bachchan said in a tweet she was a profilic actress and had given years of contribution and he had lost a dear family friend. Suffered by a long illness and slowly, slowly everyone is going away.

The talented actor Anupam Kher also have regards for Bollywood’s shammi aunty.

He said, “some people are born to spread happiness and joy. Shammiji was one of the. Warm, affectionate, funny, optimistic and a wonderful human being. Her permanent line to me was, ‘don’t ever grow your hair’. And she will continue laughing. will miss her”.
