Reliance Group led by the chairman Anil Ambani said in a statement to congress President Rahul Gandhi that his company is ‘misled, misinformed, misdirected’ for Rafale Jet deal by ‘malicious vested interests and corporate rivals’.
Ambani further said that not even a single component worth a single rupee is to be manufactured by Reliance company and all the 36 Rafale jets India was purchased from France.
Rahul Gandhi has been attacking the ruling government frequently for the negotiation of the Rafale jet deal at much higher price compared to the previous UPA government. Gandhi said that the deal has been later on changed to benefit one businessman and there should be a JPC probe into the deal.
Ambani’s letter said that, “Allegations of Reliance benefitting by thousands of crores is a figment of imagination, promoted by vested interests. Simply put, no contract exist with the Government of India”.
Earlier, the French maker of the Rafale jet, Dassault has partnered with the Reliance group for its offset requirement as per the agreement. Under this, a given percent of product is manufactured by the foreign suppliers in the buying country which may also take place in the terms of technological transfer.
Reverting back on Rahul’s allegation, Ambani said, “Deep anguish over continued personal attacks by Rahul Gandhi on him as his allegations are baseless, ill-informed and unfortunate as all 36 planes are to be 100 per cent manufactured in France and exported from France to India”.
According to Ambani, Reliance group’s role is limited to only offset/export obligations and all the Medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs) and public sector undertakings like BEL and DRDO has participated in the Rafale jet deal.
Reliance Group has decided to enter into the defence manufacturing sector in December 2014- January 2015 and the Rafale jet deal is confirmed months after it.
