The Oscar-winning music composer and musical maestro turn 52 yesterday. A.R. Rahman is referred to as ‘The Mozart of Madras’. He was born on 6th January 1967 as Dileep Kumar, into a Hindu family and at an age of 23, the music composer went ahead to embrace Islam after he met his spiritual guru, Qadri Islam. His original name is Allahrakka Rahman. A.R Rahman began his early musical training under Master Dhanraj. He has been the inspiration to many young singers. A.R.Rahman is well known for his soulful music. He has been honoured with many awards such as National Film Award, Academy Award etc. He has been awarded the Padmabhusan by Government of India in the year 2010. A.R.Rahman was included on the “Time 100 list of the world’s most influential people” in the year 2009. A.R Rahman is known for his fusion of Indian classical music with world music which makes his renditions a beautiful mix of traditional orchestral arrangements and electronic beats.
A.R. Rahman is not just a music maestro but also the gift to the Indian music industry. He is the best example of “how music knows no boundary”. Apart from being hailed in the Indian music industry, he even has rendition like Slum Dog Millionaire “Jai Ho” which made him famous all over the world. He started his music career back in 1992 with the film “Roja”. Apart from Slumdog Millionaire, A.R. Rahman has also composed great scores for other Hollywood films like 127 Hours and Lord Of War. A.R.Rahman notched up many other hits like Bombay, Kadhalan, Indira, Minsaara Kanavu, Muthu and Love Birds, Swades, Rang De Basanti and Guru.
