Ravichandran Ashwin will be the captain of the Kings XI Punjab in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2018. The season 11 will be held between 7 April to 27 May.
Earlier, he played for the Chennai Super Kings from 2009 to 2015 and for Rising Pune in 2016 and 2017. He was appointed for the Kings XI Punjab in Rs 7.60 crore in January.
Ashwin was chosen as the captain of the team over Yuvraj Singh by keeping age factor in mind. He is excited to see Yuvraj Singh in his team and is ready to give him all the freedom.
He said, “For me, it is all about Yuvi paaji trying to go out there and entertain the fans. It is very important we play an aggressive brand of cricket. Ans as far as I’m concerned, I would love to see him play freely and hit those big shots. I’m looking to give him as many overs as possible. I think he will be one of the best batsmen in our team”.
Not with the batting skills, Ashwin also wants Yuvraj to show his magic in bowling too, though Yuvraj just took two overs in 12 matches for Sunrise Hyderabad.
Adding up Ashwin says, “More than anything else, I would love to see the ‘pie chucker’ in Yuvi paaji. One of my strong points is to try and be innovative and try and change things up. And Yuvi paaji will be a very, very internal part of our team. He will be a very big Iynchpin for me to try and go for sort of advice on the field”.
R Ashwin is also looking forward to see Afghanistan’s spinner Mujeeb Zardran who is just 16 years old but already earned a national cap for his country.
Ashwin said that, “He could well be that X-factor we are looking for, but having said that, he is a young guy and I really look forward to look him up close”.
All-rounders Axar Oatel and Marcus Stoinis will be an essential part of the team alongwith the legendary Chris Gayle.
