Indonesia Open: PV Sindhu qualifies for pre-quarters, Kidambi Srikanth’s campaign ends

Olympic silver Medalist PV Sindhu qualifies for the pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing Indonesia Open BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament on Wednesday while defending champion Kidambi Srikanth’s journey for the tournament ended after loss from Japanese Kento Momota.

On Wednesday, PV Sindhu succeeded over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-15, 19-21, 21-13 thus setting up another challenge on her 23rd birthday on Thursday by facing Japan’s Aya Ohori.

Sindhu’s win over Japanese opponent is the consecutive five-time victory and last one being the Malaysian Open held on last week where he took the lead by 21-17, 21-14 in a 36-minute women’s singles match.

Former World No 1 Srikanth suffered his second consecutive loss by losing against Japanese kento Momota ranked 11th and India lost by 21-12, 14-21, 15-21 in the opening match.

Srikanth loss against the Japanese opponent for the consecutive seventh time as the later one is in the best form since he returns from a one-year ban due to the illegal gambling.

HS Prannoy took over the lead over Chinese Taipei Wang Tzu Wei and entered in the quarterfinals by 21-23, 21-15, 21-13 in men’s singles. He will likely to compete to All England champion Shi Yuqi of China.

Saina Nehwal lost the match against China’s Chen Yufei by 21-18, 21-15 and failed to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
