Kohli’s ton takes India to a clean sweep victory against Sri Lanka in the five match one day series in style at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Following the clean sweep in the Test series by 3-0, the guest team repeated the same in the ODI series and whitewashed Sri Lanka by 5-0 with a six-wicket victory. Back-to-back centuries from the aggressive Indian skipper Virat Kohli led the team from the front to chase the target of 238 runs set by the host team.
Virat Kohli (110 runs in 116 balls not out) scored the 30th ODI hundred and equals to Ricky Ponting, whereas Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed his maiden five-wicket haul to bowl out the hosts for 238 in 49.2 overs. Dhoni becomes the first wicketkeeper to 100 ODI stumpings breaking the record of Sangakkara.
India managed to chase the target of 239 for 4 in 46.3 overs which was the highest total of Sri Lanka in this series. Kohli became the highest run scorer of 2017 in ODI format. Ajinkya Rahane (5 runs in 17 balls) replaced Shikhar Dhawan, played his first match in the ODI series lost his wicket to Malinga in the 5th over only. Rohit Sharma (16 runs in 20 balls) also not stayed for long, as he lifted the ball in Pushpakumara’s hand on Vishwa Fernando’s ball.
A 99 runs partnership between Kohli and Manish Pandey (36 runs in 53 balls) for the third wicket set the stage for India’s victory. Kedar Jhadav (63 runs in 73 balls), playing in place of Hardik Pandya provided support to his skipper in their victory march.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was given the Man of the Match Award for his brilliant economical bowling and Jaspreet Bumrah was awarded with Man of the Series along with a gift car. Indian Skipper Kohli collected the series trophy.
