India beat South Africa by nine wickets to take lead of 2-0 in six match series in Centurion today. After the dreadful defeat in test series with 2-1, India now seems back on track. After this match, India has expended the series lead 2-0.
Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss at super sport park and choose to bowl first which proves to be a right decision. Indian bowler Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav terrified the South African batsmen, by summing them up in 118 in 32.2 overs. Surprisingly, this was the lowest total ever scored on this ground.
Chasing back, Kohli and Dhawan added an unbeaten 93 runs for the second wicket. Dhwan hits nine fours in his 56-ball 51 knock, his 24 th ODI fifty, while Kohli’s 46 off 50 balls included 1 six and four boundaries.
However, the game witnessed a side drama when the umpired extended play by four overs or 15 minutes as the play was stopped for lunch with India needing just 2 runs to win. Aiden Markram, the new south African captain played his third ODI, without regular skipper Faf Du Plessis and former captain AB de Villers, after both were ruled out due to injury.
Skipper Virat Kohli after the win said “it was a much harder wicket than Durban but Bhuvi and Bumrah started really well. We didn’t let south Africa get too much up front and our spinners were outstanding once again. To win like this obviously feels very good. What we thought in the morning, we did all those things right.”
Although stand-in-skipper Aiden Markram after the loss said, “this is not the performance that we hoped for. Today we’ll have to be honest with ourselves, but we have got a couples of days to turn it around in cape town”.
