Speaking about the best compliment the leading actress of Dhadak got from her director Shashank Khaitan, Janhvi Kapoor said, “I got the best compliment from my director Shashank Khaitan when he told me that he is proud of me. But more than that, I feel the kind of overwhelming response that we are getting here is the biggest compliment for all of us”.
However, along with positive reviews and earnings, Dhadak earned less applause than its original version Sairat. An Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta said that the spark from the young leads in Dhadak is missing.
Shubhra said, “That sense of playfulness which director Shashank Khaitan, going by his previous films (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya and Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya) exhibited in his earlier work, a quality which made his younger leads spark, is missing from Dhadak”.
She further added, “So is Johar’s uncanny ability to ratchet up emotions, to create frisson between two lovers, those moments full of awareness of the other, without which no love story can be effective”.
However, the movie is expected to slow down on the next weekend after the release of sanjay Dutt’s sahib, Biwi and Gangster and Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 6.
