The Indian Gold Medalist of 2018 Commonwealth Games Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu has been handed a provisional suspension after finding positive in the Doping test by the International Weightlifting Federation.
However, Sanjita has challenged the provisional suspension imposed on her after failing in the dope test by saying that she is innocent.
She said, “I am innocent, I have not taken any banned substance. I will challenge this with the help of the national federation”.
In the recently held CWG games, Sanjita has won a gold medal in the women’s 53Kg category by lifting 192Kg weight. In 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games, she had won her first CWG Gold medal by lifting 173Kg.
Sanjita Chanu is however supported by the Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) General secretary Sahdev Yadav who said, “We don’t understand why the dope result took so long. After the sample was taken, she completed in the World Championship in November last and then she won a gold in the Gold coast CWG in April. we will fight in out why this is happening”.
He further added, “In any case, we have written that we would go for the ‘B’ sample test. After we got the results we will hire a top lawyer to present our case at the hearing. I am sure Sanjita has not taken banned drugs. I am confident we will prove her innocence”.
If the ‘B’ sample will be tested positive, Sanjita could be ban for the four-year ban from the sport.
