Commonwealth Games 2018: India’s medal counts to 18 now, women’s shines brightly

The commonwealth games 2018 goes flows with a positive note for Indian players in almost every area of sports. From the day 1, India starts collecting the medals whether it is gold, silver or bronze and the total medal counts stands at 18 till date. This includes nine gold, four silvers and five bronze so far.

Recently, at the men’s 10m Air pistol event, Jitu Rai grabbed the gold with 235.1 and his fellow Om Mitharwal clinched the bronze with 214.3.

The gold Medalist rai said, “My belief was unflinching. Two-three low scores pulled me down but then my belief helped me. That makes me really happy. So, I was confident of covering it in finals and I never back off. I am reaping the rewards of all the hard work I have put in during training”.

Heena sidhu won the silver medal for the shooting event while another medal gold was brought by the weightlifter Punam Yadav at 69 kg category.

Indian daughter marked their successful presence at this commonwealth games. Mehuli Ghosh won the silver medal at 10m Air Rifle while Apurvi Chandela clinched the bronze in the same event.

For the first ever women’s Table Tennis win at the Commonwealth Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team.

Modi said, “A well deserved and historic Gold for the Indian Women’s table Tennis team! Congratulations to the team. Delighted at this accomplishment”.

In the women’s boxing 48 kg category, Indian legendary boxer M C Mary Kom bragged a medal with an easy win of 5-0 against the 18yr old Scotland’s Megan Gordon and saved his place for the semi-final at the Gold Coast on Sunday.

Bollywood celebrities gave their congratulations in bulk for the achievements till date. Specially, the women cadre were applauded mainly by the celebrities. Bollywood Big B tweeted and congratulated the women athletes.

He said, “The greatness of sport and the pride we have in our women athletes that are doing wonders down under! Weightlifting, Shooting, Table Tennis, Squash. Incredible, you make us proud Indians”.
