Asian Games 2018: Total medal tally reaches to eight, created history in Sepak Takraw, other major highlights

Asian games 2018 which was enthusiastically started on 18th August brings many medals for the Indian contingents till now as India grabbed five medals on the 3rd day of the tournament. With this, the total medal tally reaches to 8 including 3 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze.

The Indian wrestlers and shooters shine brightly at 3rd day while another rarely known sports Sepak takraw gives bronze to Indian Men’s team.

India stands strong at the starting of the day 3 when just 16-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary won the first gold of the day after defeating world champion Tomoyuki Matsuda in the 10m Air Pistol event while his companion Abhishek Verma bags the bronze in the same event.

After that, veteran shooter Sanjeev Rajput grabbed the silver medal at Men’s 50m 3 position rifle event. The highlights of the Asian Games day 3 became India’s win at team Ragu or Sepak Takraw event as they created history by winning the first ever medal in the sport.

Union Sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore took to Twitter and congratulated the team.

He said, “History created! Kudos to the India Sepak Takraw team. Not only did they become India’s 1st team in the sports to reach the semi-finals to the team Ragu event at Asian Games 2018 and also winning a medal. Fantastic team effort by the boys”.

India continues to increase the medal tally with Divya Kakran who won a bronze medal at the 68 kg women’s freestyle event. With this, she became the second women after Vinesh phogat to win a medal in Asian Games 2018 but In swimming event, India’s Virdhawal Khade missed by just 0.01 seconds to win the bronze.

Overall, India stands at 7th position with 8 medals at Asian Games 2018 while the top countries include China with 56 medals, Japan with 43 medals and South Korea with 31 medals.
