Indian shooters and hockey team shines brightly at the day 4 of Asian Games 2018 with Rahi Sarnobat winning the gold medal at 25m pistol event while Indian Hockey team marked the historic win after defeating Hong Kong by 26-0.
Kohlapur born shooter Rahi Sarnobat beat Thailand’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon by first creating suspense with the tie of 34 points but later on she took the lead by targeting four times out of five while Thailand’s opponent restrict to two points only.
The bronze for the same event goes to South Korean’s Kim Minjung. With the gold, Rahi becomes the second Indian shooter to win the gold after 16-year old Saurabh Chaudhary who won the gold at 10m pistol event yesterday.
Rahi Sarnobat won the India’s first pistol shooter gold in World Cup 2013 but after that she suffered a serious elbow injury. However, she bravely faced the situation and decided to change her technique under the assistance of two-time world champion Munkhbayar Dorjsuren.
Dorjsuren speaks about her training while saying that, “I had to change her technique and I also worked on her a lot on the mental aspect of the game. She was already a high-level shooter and needed some tweak in her game. It was a close final but I had prepared her for the shoot-off”.
India is warmed happily by another achievement of the hockey team who marked a historic defeat of Hong Kong China team by 26-0 at the Asian Games 2018.
This was the first time when Indian Hockey team had achieved such biggest ever achievement after 86 years when India beat USA by 24-1 in 1932 Olympics.
Three highlighted stars of the hockey team emerged as Rupinderpal Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh who made a hattrick each and added a mountainous score for the opponents. Now, India will face Japan on Friday.
With this India medal tally reaches to 11 medal including 4 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze at Asian Games 2018.
