Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu with wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu has recently announced to adopt all the children who lost their parents in the dreadful Amritsar train accident that took away 61 lives.
Navjot Singh said in a recently held event at circuit house in Amritsar that he will take care of the all the needs of the children including education and other expenses of those who lost their parents in the Amritsar train accident.
With the children, the expenses of the women who lost their husband will also be taken care, Navjot Singh said.
He said, “In my personal capacity and I my wife hereby announce the adoption of all the children who have lost their parents. Their education in good institutions and all other expenses will be borne by us. Women who have lost their husbands will also be extended all required financial help”.
Punjab Government has announced the distribution of Rs. 5 Lakhs each to the families of the deceased which account to the total amount of Rs. 1.05 crore, as per released by the press.
The amount of Rs. 1.05 crore is given to the 21 families while the rest amount will be distributed within the two days, as said by the Health and Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra.
Mohindra said, “It is such a depressing time for the families of the victims. The government stand with them. on the instruction of the Chief Minister, I am camping at Amritsar to personally monitor the relief and rehabilitation work”.
Amritsar train accident which occurred on the last Friday evening killed 60 people who were standing on the railway track and witnessing the Ravan effigy when a local train passed on them. The chief guest on the event was Navjot Kaur Sidhu and allegation on her was imposed that she immediately fled from the accident place instead of initiating the relief work.
