Creating a craze among the youth in the early 20s century and ruling at that era, Yahoo Messenger finally shuts down after 20 years of successful run as messenger services was ended on July 17.
Though the company is shutting down its messenger app but it has not yet announced any replacement available for the Yahoo Messenger as the company is currently working with the new services and apps among which a new invite-only group messaging app squirrel is there.
Squirrel is a group messaging app available in the beta form. Though the services for the Yahoo Messenger will be shut but the users will get the advance six months’ time to download their chat history in another device.
Yahoo on the shut down said, “As the communications landscape continues to change over, we’re focussing on building and introducing new, exciting communications tools that better fir consumer needs”.
However, Yahoo doesn’t gives any specific reason for the discontinuation of the messenger as the speculation were made that the Yahoo Messenger is unable to combat the competition given by the Facebook’s WhatsApp and Messenger, WeChat and Snapchat.
Started in 1998, Yahoo Messenger was launched as an alternative to email and Short message service (SMS) and was named as “Yahoo Pager”.
