1st T20: India beat South Africa by 28 runs

India defeated South Africa by 28 runs in the opening series of 1st T20 match at the new wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. This is the first ever win by team India on South African soil.

India sets a target of 203 runs in 5 wickets and restricts the south African batsmen to score under a massive pressure. The opener Reeza Kendricks made 70 runs and Jon Jon smouts scores few boundaries initially, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar do not allow the smooth partnership to proceed further, as he took Smut’s wicket for 14.

After a loss, the team could not stand up stronger again as the Captain JP Duminy departs with 3 runs and David Miller can only manage to score 9 runs. After that, a hope came up when Hendricks and Farheen Behardien makes an 81-run partnership but Yuzvendra Chahal break the hope and puts Indian team again in the strong front.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes the first Indian pacer to score his career best figure of 5-24 in a T20 match.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli said that he is proud of the boys today and especially the Bhuvneshwar’s effort to mark the best ever record.

The South African team captain JP Duminy wins the toss and choose to ball with a winning strategy but reverting all his tricks, the Indian team led by Virat kohli gives one of the career’s best win.

The captain Duminy said, “You are going to go through periods in your career, where you go through slumps, be it senior players or a new player and unfortunately, throughout the series quite a few senior players have come up short. Including myself, it’s been a dismal ODI series and today as well.”

On the batting side, Dhawan scores 72 and helped India to build up a massive 203 runs after losing hope from Rohit Sharma (21), Kohli (10), MS Dhoni (29), Manish Pandey (16) and Hardik Pandya (13).

The second match will be played at Centurion on February 21.

The Indian team celebrate their win and Captain Virat Kohli posted a photo with Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the other team-mates with a tweet, “last night dinner with the boys after a good win”.
